Hi, I’m Kelsey,
I’m the writer and mom behind Raising Little Wild Ones. Since becoming a mom 2 short years ago, I’ve been pouring my heart into one thing: creating a lifestyle that allows me to be adventurous, while simultaneously teaching my children to love adventure and value the world!
I’ve always been passionate about travel and the world. But I never knew how passionate I would be about being a mom. I knew I would “like” being a mom, but I didn’t know how much I would “love” it, or how I would want to spend as much time as possible teaching them to love the world the way I do.
But, becoming a mom created a new level of complications and issues for me when it came to living the life I wanted to. There were the logistical issues of figuring out how to get two babies to the places I wanted to go. There was the issue of figuring out what I could do with my kids – physical limitations, appropriateness, etc.. And there was the FEAR.
This is the fear that no one talks about. The fear that you don’t know what you’re doing. All of the sudden you’re responsible for another life – not just another life, but one of the most important lives you’ll ever know! So you want to make sure where you’re going is safe and appropriate for them. You want to make sure you are prepared and that you have everything you need – that the trip will be enjoyable for the whole family and not just one never-ending screaming/crying match!
When I started on my journey of learning how to live an adventurous life with my little ones, I started to realize something – I am GOOD at it, and I ENJOY it. I love spending the few minutes of spare time I get each day during nap time researching and finding everything I want to do in a new city. I love daydreaming about and planning a trip for my family and figuring out exactly where we want to go. So, I started a blog about it. Not only because I wanted to document my families adventures, but also because I wanted to help other adventurous souls so they can get their adventure fix – even when their kids are still babies and the whole thing seems overwhelming!
Every new city we visit as a family, we create a Family Travel Bucket List based off of countless hours of research and getting recommendations from trusted sources. Then as we go through the bucket list, we write about our experience, offer tips and provide resources for that adventure. This is a great way to get some ideas for your next family adventure and to give you some peace of mind knowing exactly what to expect when you go!
We also write extensively about kid-friendly things to do in our home state of Utah. We are blessed to live in such a fantastic state filled with tons of local adventures – and I never knew how much was going on locally until I started looking for it. I wanted to create a place where it was easy to find things for local families to do with their kids – because not everyone has the financial freedom to travel all the time. We need inexpensive local adventures to hold us over until those big trips come along!
Raising Little Wild Ones is more than just a blog about traveling as a family. We want to raise our kids to appreciate the world – the people, the earth, the different cultures, the animals – all of it! And as a part of that mission to teach my children to value life and to be responsible, caring members of society, we also provide resources about raising children that are engaged in the world around them – even when they are stuck at home for weeks on end!
As a part of this, I decided to become a consultant for Usborne Books & More. Reading is a way to go on a unique adventure without having to leave home. It’s a great way for an adventurous soul to spend a rainy afternoon – and we wanted our children to experience a different kind of adventure that you can only find in books. So I created our Little Adventurer Craft Kits. They are the perfect way to create an adventure at home for those days when you just can’t leave the house!
